Austin Hefferin – son, brother, teammate, friend.

Austin Hefferin joined the Florida Jr. Blades in 2012 and had an immediate impact. On the ice he was known for his shooting skills, puck control and great chirps. Off ice he was charming and charismatic with a warm spirit and abundant wit. Austin co-captained the 2014 championship team. He hoisted the Empire League championship trophy and celebrated with his teammates. Riding high he boarded a plane to return to Florida, not knowing his whole world was about to change. Mid-flight Austin fell ill and was rushed to the hospital upon landing. There he was diagnosed with stage 3 glioblastoma – brain cancer.

With his world upside down Austin underwent multiple brain surgeries, chemo, and radiation. Austin endured it all and in 2016 was in remission.  It was a hard fought and painful victory.

In spring 2019 Austin and his family received the news – his cancer was back, stage 4, and vicious. The prognosis from doctors was 6-12 months. Austin continued to fight for the next 16. After a 6.5 year battle his fight is now over. Austin passed away at home surrounded by his family and loved ones.

With heavy hearts we say goodbye and remember a wonderful man.
