SYOSSET, NY - The NCDC Islanders have signed a tender agreement with 6 foot 1 center Holden Hertog of Fort Myers, FL. Hertog, a 2001 skater, has been a part of the Florida Junior Blades organization for the past four seasons — transitioning from practice squad player, up through their Premier program, where he has skated for the past two seasons, averaging .56 points per game. We caught up with Holden over the phone to talk about his excitement with coming to the Islanders.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO BE ABLE TO MOVE FROM FLORIDA OVER TO AN AFFILIATE TEAM IN PAL?

“This is a very easy move for me, my goal is to one day to play college hockey, and I know that moving from Florida Jr Blades Premier up into PAL NCDC is the right choice for the progression of my career. It means a lot to me to be able to make this change, and I'm excited to get going.”

DESCRIBE YOUR PLAYING STYLE, WHAT WILL YOU BRING TO THE ISLANDERS?

‘I would describe myself as a playmaker, most definitely. I'm the first one in the zone, I'm incredibly hard on the puck, I bring tenacity and an aggressive forecheck to the lineup, and I'm always there to set up a play for my wingers.

WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT THE FLORIDA JR. BLADES ORGANIZATION, ONE THAT YOU'VE SPENT FOUR SEASONS WITH?

“I have nothing but good things to say about the Florida jr. Blades organization, they've been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Starting off as a practice player, and transitioning from the Elite level to Premier has been nothing but an amazing experience. I've met a ton of amazing people over my years here, have faced some real tough challenges playing against other Floridian teams, and have kindled relationships that I'll take with me for the rest of my life.”

WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT IN COMING TO NEW YORK?

“I mean, its New York - there's so much to be excited about. I guess I could say I'm most excited about the opportunity to change my atmosphere. I've been in Florida my entire life and I'm incredibly excited to get out, see new things, and experience New York life. I'm also really excited to make that next step into a higher level of hockey that will help my transition into a future college career.

The PAL Junior Islanders organization would like to congratulate Holden on signing his tender. We wish him nothing but success during his time with the team. Follow Holden and other notable Islanders skaters at our Main Camp on July 15th and 16th.
